We are looking for a WordPress Developer with strong expertise in creating, customizing, and maintaining WordPress themes and plugins.

As a WordPress Engineer at DigitalOcean, you will join a dynamic team dedicated to revolutionizing cloud computing and AI. This role reports to the Technical Manager and works closely with product, design, and QA teams. You will lead development of custom WordPress themes, plugins, and REST API integrations to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions.

Optimize website performance, security, and Core Web Vitals to ensure fast and reliable user experiences. Architect and implement scalable site structures with clean, maintainable, and reusable code. Manage version control with Git and deployment workflows for smooth releases.

Research and implement new WordPress features, tools, and emerging technologies to improve development processes. Troubleshoot complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, and compatibility issues. Over time, grow into a key technical leader driving architecture decisions and shaping the platform's future.

Requirements

  • Minimum 8+ years of professional WordPress development experience, including custom plugin/theme development, REST API integration, and performance optimization
  • Strong expertise in PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and jQuery
  • Proficiency in modern build tools (Webpack, Gulp, npm) and version control (Git)
  • Solid understanding of WordPress architecture, hooks, filters, and best practices for scalability and security
  • Familiarity with WooCommerce, Gutenberg/Block Editor, and third-party API integrations
  • Experience with server environments (NGINX/Apache), caching, and CDN setup
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor developers, conduct code reviews, and manage small teams
